Bryan Adams Apologizes After Backlash Over Comments Directed At 'F**king Bat Eating' Chinese People

Bryan Adams apologizes for coronavirus comments

Bryan Adams is asking for your forgiveness after he made insensitive comments blaming the coronavirus pandemic on “f**king bat eating” Chinese people.

The controversial rant came on Monday in the caption of an Instagram video showing the Please Forgive Me singer performing his 1983 song Cut Like a Knife on guitar while quarantining at home.

He wrote alongside the clip:

“Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some f**king bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold, not to mention the thousands that have suffered or died from this virus. My message to them other than ‘thanks a f**king lot’ is go vegan.”

Ugh… really dude?

The comments quickly drew the ire of social media, with many pointing out that, across the globe, people of Asian descent are getting harassed by people who blame China for the COVID-19 outbreak.

Adams’ remarks referenced the working theory that the coronavirus originated from someone eating a bat or an animal bitten by a bat. He also seemed to allude to a totally unfounded theory that the deadly virus was made in a Chinese laboratory.

In response to the backlash, the Grammy winner disabled the comment section on the post — but didn’t delete or edit the text, as of Tuesday morning — and went on to share a follow-up post apologizing for his words.

“Apologies to any and all that took offence [sic] to my posting yesterday. No excuse, I just wanted to have a rant about the horrible animal cruelty in these wet-markets being the possible source of the virus, and promote veganism. I have love for all people and my thoughts are with everyone dealing with this pandemic around the world.”

There you have it: he has love for all people — except the f**king bat eating bastards apparently?

Bryan is far from the only one to slam Chinese wet markets, though. After the Hunan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan was linked to an early large cluster of coronavirus cases, a worldwide debate intensified about wet markets, which sell live and dead animals for human consumption.

As for the musician, he was scheduled for a three-night stint at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which has now been pushed back to April 2021. He added in the caption of his original post:

“To all the people missing out on our shows, I wish I could be there more than you know. It’s been great hanging out in isolation with my children and family, but I miss my other family, my band, my crew and my fans. Take care of yourselves and hope we can get the show on the road again soon.”
