Listen up, U.S.A.!
The Canadian Blood Services is able to see a stupid rule when they see one — and if there’s a blood shortage, this is doubly so.
They’re pushing forward to lift the lifetime blood donation ban put on men who have had sex with other men!
That ban is stupid to begin with, because HIV/AIDS isn’t solely a gay man’s disease. In fact, if you’re male, female, young and old, it doesn’t matter: you’re always at risk.
The ban paints that all gay men have promiscuous sex all the time. That’s just not the case — everyone has that capacity.
They want to reduce the ban from having sex with a man since 1977 to “5 to 10 years.”
If you ask us, that’s still a little ridiculous… but less so. That’s the length of a good and long monogamous relationship, at least, if that’s what they’re really worried about.
We just wish none of this continued an old and tired stereotype. It’s a shame!
Either way, the U.S.A. should follow suit!
