Here are some highlights from the interview:
On her inaccurate public perception:
“I├óΓé¼Γäóm so misunderstood! I├óΓé¼Γäóm not focused on what other people think of me. Some people get you and some people don├óΓé¼Γäót, and to spend your life trying to make people understand how deep and complex and varied you are├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥I think that way lies madness.”
On her husband’s influence:
“My husband keeps me really honest. I remember him saying to me after I made Elizabeth, ├óΓé¼╦£Sweetheart, you├óΓé¼Γäóve probably got about about five years.├óΓé¼Γäó He was preparing me for the time when the work dries up, as it invariably does.”
Husband and playwright Andrew Upton, on his wife as a coworker:
“She challenges, but she├óΓé¼Γäós not aggressive. I can tend to be a bit scattergun. She├óΓé¼Γäós quite practical in the end, so I often just fire off, and she├óΓé¼Γäóll sort of pick up the pieces or choose the best bits. She would be the first and pretty much only person I would seriously seek counsel from. We├óΓé¼Γäóre fairly brutal with each other.”
On working with her husband:
“We├óΓé¼Γäóre really open. I have friends├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥she├óΓé¼Γäós an actor/writer married to a director├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥and she was horrified when we said we were going to work together. She said they don├óΓé¼Γäót talk about work because they don├óΓé¼Γäót want to venture into the territory of being criticized by you partner. But I know what to do with the criticism.”
Sounds like they have a great relationship. Other couples should take notes!
