We have now learned Catherine O’Hara‘s cause of death.

Per TMZ’s reporting, the legendary Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actress died at 71 from a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying cause.
A pulmonary embolism happens when a blood clot blocks a pulmonary artery in the lungs. So awful. We knew she had briefly battled an illness not long before her death, so we figured her health had been under some strain. But cancer? That information had not yet been publicly disclosed.
We hate to find out how this brilliant talent suffered during her final moments.

If you’ll recall, the Schitt’s Creek star passed after experiencing a medical emergency at her home in Los Angeles on the morning of Friday, January 30. LAFD responded to the 911 call, rushing her to a nearby hospital as she endured trouble breathing. Sadly, she didn’t make it.
Her body has been cremated, and her husband, Robert “Bo” Welch, has received her remains. Our heart goes out to him and all her loved ones.
