Chanel Workers Protest

chaneljapan.jpg

Wow!

Roughly 200 Chanel employees picketed outside the company’s French headquarters on Thursday over salary conditions.

Apparently, all staff earning less than 3,000 euros, or $4,301, per month were given a 1 percent increase, but were not satisfied. Instead, the Chanel employees are demanding a 2.5 percent increase.

Execs at Chanel were surprised by the demonstrations, thinking instead that the employees would be happy to get any raise in this economic climate. What’s more, all of the employees’ benefits were renewed, with many of them increased.

We’re all for worker’s rights and all, but $4,301 per month is totally livable wages and this isn’t exactly a time of prosper, especially for the fashion industry. Then again, we don’t have all the details from them employees’ perspective.

What do U think?
