Art imitating life, perhaps??
Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer may only play Lt. Matt Casey on TV—but in a dramatic twist of events, he had to take on the role of a real-life hero last week!
His parents and a group of tourists got trapped in an elevator for 45 minutes while touring the Illinois State Capitol on Sunday, so Jesse knew he had to do something!
He aided in the elevator escape by prying open the jammed doors enough to get a cell phone signal to dial 911—continuing to keep the group calm until real firefighters came to the rescue.
In an interview after the incident, the heroic actor revealed:

“People started to freak out. It was getting so hot. It’s claustrophobic. One poor girl had a fear of being trapped in elevators. Eventually, I managed to get the doors open so we could get air in. It relieved the tension. I took turns getting people that were freaking out over near the door. I didn’t want them sticking their heads out in case the elevator took off again.”

A rescue crew arrived soon after, freeing everyone from the doomed elevator—and Jesse tweeted the adorable pic (above) after the ordeal, with the caption:

We love how his actor training and quick thinking was put to such good use. What a hero!
