China Bans Festival Where Dogs Were Slaughtered And Eaten

Finally, after 600 years, a Chinese dog eating festival in Qianxi, China, has been cancelled.
After a major social media outcry demanding for its cancellation, the event is finally over as images of dead dogs from past festivals have made their way online.
It’s sad to think that so may dogs are slaughtered annually at the event which reportedly commemorates a battle fought in that city where an invading army killed all the dogs in the town to prevent them from barking and alerting their owners. The army then ate the dog meat after the conquered the town.
Talk about taking history too literally.
And although eating dogs and cats in China is still legal, the banning of the slaughter of all those dogs for the “festival” is a step in the right direction.
