Shortly after an influencer’s generous encounter with an elderly farmer in China, tragedy sadly struck.
According to reports, a social media personality who goes by Zhang posted a video on social media on June 25 of his heartwarming interaction with an 81-year-old farmer named Jing. The man was out selling the vegetables he planted in Henan, as many farmers in the area do. However, he likely never expected how things would turn out that day — starting with Zhang buying all of his crops. Yes, the influencer asked for everything!

But rather than selling the vegetables at full price, out of the kindness of his heart, Jing gave Zhang a discount of 0.80 yuan — or 12 US cents — per kilo. So, all the spinach, cucumbers, and eggplants cost him only 60 yuan, or $8.80, even after he tried putting his foot on the scale to increase the food’s weight and, in turn, the price. Even when Zhang jokingly asked for a free lunch, Jing didn’t hesitate to agree!

Zhang paid for and sat down with Jing for two large bowls of braised noodles, which the farmer said he had never had before because they were too expensive, and more, though. During their conversation, Jing revealed he had two daughters, but his eldest sadly died by suicide 15 years ago following a battle with depression.
How heartbreaking.
He said he now worked to earn money for his two grandsons. The video ended with Zhang asking Jing to take away the leftover dishes for his wife to enjoy at home. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t stop there. And it ends tragically…
After Zhang posted the video, a man with the handle @xibeilang reportedly took to the comments section to reveal his grandfather had been the one the content creator helped — and he died in a car accident on his way home from lunch. The grandson said they discovered several items at the crash site that Jing never would’ve bought because they were too luxurious, which confused the family until they saw the video. He then thanked Zhang for treating Jing to a “hearty meal,” adding:
“This is his last meal. And this video is his last footage. In all these years, this is the first time I saw my grandpa so happy.”
Absolutely devastating! Our hearts break for Jing and his family! Three days later, Zhang reportedly returned to social media to reveal he sent all the footage from Jing’s final moments to his family and offered to help them if they ever needed it in the future.
