Chris Benoit strangled his wife and his son, and then hung himself.
This caused a flurry of books and theories written about the wrestler, and people started asking questions about steroids and how something like this could happen. Well, it turns out that the whole of it makes some people think it’d make a pretty good movie, because they’re adapting Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry into one.
Here’s why:
“All of us grow up believing that wrestling is fake, but looking at the shocking number of deaths in the industry, it quickly becomes evident that there is nothing fake about the dangers of this sport. Chris Benoit has become a poster child for everything that’s wrong with professional wrestling and Sarah’s terrific script captures his struggles and the many factors that led to the deaths of three people.”
├óΓé¼┼ôPeople immediately point to steroids, never thinking about the brain trauma these wrestlers can, and do, incur in their profession, nor do they consider the rigorous schedule that keeps them working even when they shouldn t be. The Benoit story is one that needs to be brought into the light.”
How is it not in the light already? It was huge news.
We’re not sure how necessary it is, and if they can even get the rights to specifics. If they do it, they have to do it right — and going just the full on “inspired by” route might not be the best, as someone has mentioned that they might need to go the Alpha Dog route with it. Facts, but no real names.
Either way, the end is so bleak that we don’t know if it’s even possible to make something like this, with it being a true story.
