Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky are the latest celebs to feel the wrath of online parenting critics.
The Avengers actor took to Instagram Monday to share the Hemsworth family’s celebration of their youngest members, 9-year-old twin boys Sasha and Tristan. But some fans are not happy about their “fun.”

In his upload, Chris shared a family photo of himself alongside Elsa and their three children– including the twins and their eldest daughter, 10-year-old India Rose — where the Fast Five actress can be seen pushing her son’s face down into a chocolate cake, while Chris and their other two children laugh. He captioned the snap:
“Happy 9th birthday to my two little men! Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!! ‘Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla’ ‘oh really son, what about now’?”
As far as birthdays go, the practice of dunking one’s face into their own cake isn’t irregular, and can be a fun way to celebrate — as long as all the candles are removed and it’s not done too hard! Obviously we didn’t see video of the moment, so who knows?
However, it didn’t take long for followers to begin sharing their disapproving takes, even going as far as to dub the act “violent” in the comments section:
“Why people smash their kid’s face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever”
“Why do people think this is funny?”
“In my country [this is] done, but it’s very poorly [looked upon] because several accidents have already happened”
“It’s so violent”
“whhhyyyyy do people think this is funny”
We’re not saying there aren’t accidents with the practice, but it really doesn’t look like Elsa was applying much force. It all seemed to be in the name of fun! While there were plenty of critics, there were also those that came to the proud parents’ defense, while wishing the boys a happy birthday:
“Violent? It’s a bit of play”
“That’s GREAT! Happy Birthday!”
“Just a bit of basic humor….. they look like they are having a good time together”
“Those kids are gonna grow up able to take a joke not be some little fairy who thinks having their head dipped in frosting is violent”
Others commented on Chris’ “proud dad stance” while watching the celebration unfold. It’s pretty obvious he loves being a poppa so much!

We doubt that the Hemsworth kids are going to grow up with trauma from having their faces dunked in cake, but who knows! Something just tells us they’re not being brought up nearly as tough like their dad. (Luke Hemsworth looks like a wrasslin’ type — just sayin’!)
What are YOUR thoughts on the celebratory practice, Perezcious readers? Do you think the cake smashing was “violent” or just “a bit of play?” Let us know in the comments down below!
