When Christian Bale signed on to be in The Machinist, he wasn’t supposed to get THAT skinny!
In fact, the 6’2″ actor did it all because of a little editorial oversight.
Co-star Michael Ironside recently explained what happened, saying:
“The writer is only about five-foot-six, and he put his own weights in. And then Chris did the film and Chris said, ├óΓé¼╦£No, don’t change the weights. I want to see if I make them.’ … So those weights he writes on the bathroom wall in the film are his actual weights in the film.”
Hmm… So, the dangerous challenge was his own decision?

It probably wasn’t the smartest thing for him to do, but in the end, Bale got the alarming results her wanted.
Maybe the typo worked out for the best!
