THIS is the kind of stuff we love to see out of professional sports!!
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick & Panthers quarterback Cam Newton are not about to leet homophobia ruin the sport — and we are in LOVE with what they had to say on ESPN├óΓé¼Γäós Sunday Conversation!
First, they both said ‘absolutely’ when asked if they’d be okay and accept Michael Sam in their locker rooms!
Here’s what Cam said, expanind:
“His job is a linebacker. Colin said it best when he said we don├óΓé¼Γäót worry about each other when we├óΓé¼Γäóre outside of football. Of course we have, ├óΓé¼╦£Are you OK? Is there anything I can help you with?├óΓé¼Γäó But the main focus is, we├óΓé¼Γäóre football players. We├óΓé¼Γäóre here in this organization for one reason and one reason only. And if you├óΓé¼Γäóre able to help us attain that winning success, your personal life is your personal life.”
To which Kaepernick added:
“No one cares if you├óΓé¼Γäóre black, white, straight gay, Christian, Jewish, whatever it may be. When you step on that field you├óΓé¼Γäóre a member of, in my case the 49ers, or the Carolina Panthers, that├óΓé¼Γäós your job. That├óΓé¼Γäós your occupation.”
Luckily, we get the feeling that the majority of the NFL feels this way too — with the exception of those still living in the past. According to a poll, 86% of NFL players would accept a gay teammate! ESPN asked!
It would be awesome if kicker Chris Kluwe could find his way back into the sport with this major shift in acceptance! Chris isn’t gay, but he was VERY vocal about his support… and someone on his team didn’t like it!
We really wish Michael the best of luck!!
