A new study has found that college students who binge-drink reported they’re happier with their social lives than non-binging students.
Though the study only looked at one school, it showed that students who were consistently binge-drinking were also having a better time socially.
They defined binge-drinking as when someone had four or more drinks for women and five or more drinks for men in one sitting at least once every two weeks or more.
That means anyone who got drunk one weekend night every two weeks. Basically it means everyone in college (and most people out of college) are binge-drinkers.
The study researcher said:
“I would guess it has to do with feeling like you belong and whether or not you’re doing what a ‘real’ college student does. It seems to be more about certain groups getting to define what that looks like.”
So many students drink to try and gain higher social status, though many don’t want to drink as much as they do.
The secret is just to watch yourself.
Go to a party, even drink if you want to, but if you have trouble self regulating, drink a secret water for every other drink.
If it’s cans of beer at the party, go to the bathroom and fill your empty can with tap water. If it’s solo cups, just fill that up.
No one will notice and you’ll be drinking less and have less of a hangover the next morning!
Everyone wins!
