Welcome to the recession.
We live in a great time when knowledge is power and more kids than ever are eager to put their best foot forward towards higher learning. As jobs are harder to find these days than Atlantis, a record number of kids are enrolling in colleges and universities than ever before. Sadly, the number of kids NOT graduating from school is ever more staggering than the previous statistics.
You see, college comes at a price. A HUGE price. Most kids, even those who are exceptionally smart, can’t afford the costs of learning, living and being on a college campus. According to a new study, 75% of students in college are only part-time, since they can’t afford the staggering costs of their education. Because they are part-time, it takes those students double the time to get their degree – if they get it at all.
From the study:
The numbers are stark: In Texas, for example, of every 100 students who enrolled in a public college, 79 started at a community college, and only 2 of them earned a two-year degree on time; even after four years, only 7 of them graduated. Of the 21 of those 100 who enrolled at a four-year college, 5 graduated on time; after eight years, only 13 had earned a degree.
That is just … depressing.
How sad to think of a generation of bright, thoughtful people who are being deprived an equally bright future because of what, oh yeah, MONEY!
When will it end? When will this country fix itself for the good of all?
