Colorado seems to be doing something right when it comes to health, as they’re the leanest state in the U.S. right now.
So, wouldn’t it make sense for them to think about banning the use of trans-fats in schools to keep children healthy??
The bill introduced would forbid any trans-fat in school food – not just the food served through regular cafeteria lunches!
So what does that include? That includes vending machines, after-school bake sales, and “a la carte” items on lunch lines like ice cream or pizza — unless produced without artery-clogging trans fats.
“Colorado is one of the healthiest states but has the one of the highest rates of childhood obesity. So if we’re going to do something about that, this is a step in the right direction.”
“You can still have the exact same food. You’d have to find different ways of preparing them.”
If approved, this could go into effect as soon as next year!
We think it’s a fab idea — mainly because kids really won’t be missing out on foods because they’re just prepared differently. Plus, who doesn’t want a healthy generation to come up though the ranks??
