Potatoes To Be (Kind Of) Banned In Colorado School Lunches

If the potatoes in school lunches were as scary and creepy as the ones above, we’re pretty sure not a single child would eat one.

Unfortunately, potatoes do not look like the ones above. Instead, they’re made into delicious creamy mashed potatoes, sliced into crispy french fries, or fried into little tiny tater tots for kids to eat.

…Which is why Colorado senators want to partially ban the starchy and less-healthy vegetable from school lunches. Instead of offering potato products in the cafeteria every day, politicians want to limit the servings to just one small cup a week.

Potato farmers are concerned for their businesses, though, especially since Colorado is the fourth largest producer of potatoes in the country.

Also, by mandating other foods, it could potential create a $7 billion increase in the cost of school lunches.

We’re torn! We don’t want famers to lose revenue, but potatoes are generally more unhealthy compared to other vegetables that could be offered to kids. What a dilemma!
