What a wonderful idea!
New York City’s Midtown Comics wanted to celebrate the same-sex marriage of Marvel’s first openly gay superhero, so they did the next best thing and married two gay comic book fans!
The shop announced the wedding giveaway in honor of Astonishing X-Men #51, in which Northstar ties the knot, and then selected a couple from Columbus, Ohio.
Scott Everhart and Jason Welker weren’t even engaged yet, but that changed once Scott received a request to be interviewed. He showed the love of his life the email, then got down on one knee to pop the question!
Two weeks later they flew to the Big Apple and were wed in a private ceremony last Wednesday, of which Welker said:
“It was just us. We didn├óΓé¼Γäót have to worry about what other people wanted us to do for our wedding.”
Since the couple had their first date at a comic book store, the wedding was a dream come true and made their one-year relationship come “full circle.” Everhart even INTRODUCED his boyfriend to X-Men on that first date, so the event was particularly special to them.
Considering both are out and proud of their love for comics AND each other, we can’t imagine there was a better way to take the next step.
Congrats, guys!
