Can Fancy Packaging Trick You Into Eating Bugs??

A Belgian startup company has a really good, really gross idea.
They want to make eating bugs attractive to the general population.
Yup! They’re called SexyFood (LOLz!) and, like a cliche elementary school bully, they want to make you eat bugs!
The UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization released a report last year praising bugs as a healthy, nutritious food that the world should eat more often.

Crickets have as much protein as chicken, plus even more vitamins and minerals!! Also, mass producing crickets as food leaves a much smaller carbon footprint.
So, how do they plan to market eating bugs? By not marketing eating bugs! They’ve got a seriously sleek design for their cans, with only a number representing the food inside.
No bug references at all.
The package’s designer, Steven van Boxtel, said:

“The idea was to give a mysterious feeling. In our culture, it’s not usual to eat insects, so to present it as normal food would be a little bit too obvious. Our culture also sees it as a little bit disgusting. The idea was to avoid that and present it like an experience. If you’re eating this product, you’re not eating it because you like to eat insects, since these don’t exist in our society. It’s more, okay, ‘I want to try something new, I want something original.’ That’s why we hid almost everything about the insects├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥they’re more eating a concept than they’re eating insects.”

Buttttttttt you’re still eating bugs.
They offer everything from giant water bugs and rhino beetles to black scorpions.
We get it — but gross.
