Joe Paterno‘s wife, Sue Paterno, donated over $1 million to have a catholic chapel built right near the campus’ entrance at Penn State. It will bear her name: Suzanne Pohland Paterno Catholic Faith Center.
That construction is still ongoing despite her husband’s scandal woes.
In fact, they even showed up to a public service this week, to show that they aren’t in hiding and that there’s no reason for them to be.
Honestly, we don’t necessarily think her name should be removed from the project or anything. It was her donations and her plans, and it seems wholly separate from everything that’s going on, despite similarities between the sexual abuse scandals in the catholic church and what’s going on in the football program at PSU.
You could make the argument that she’s using money made from the years that Joe protected Sandusky, but the question is whether or not that’s stretching a little far? At least she didn’t go out and buy a bunch of stuff with it for personal use, but donated it.
Unless, of course, he was open to her about everything as it was happening and she knew about it and did nothing too.
In that case, how hard would it really be to change the name of it?
What do U think? Should she continue to be allowed to be involved with it? Should it be named after her?
