Texas Politician Suggests 'Lots Of Grandparents' Would Be Willing To Die From Coronavirus To Save US Economy -- WTF?!

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick suggests grandparents would be willing to die from coronavirus to save the US economy

Dan Patrick, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, went on Tucker Carlson‘s Fox News show on Monday night and offered up a truly jaw-dropping suggestion to combat coronavirus.

Frustrated by the stalled-out economy while much of the United States shelters in place and practices self-quarantine measures over the past few weeks, Patrick told Carlson that it’s time to get back to work, even if it means millions of at-risk people including “lots of” grandparents may die in the process. Not even kidding…

We’re not even going to try to set this one up… here are the exact words Patrick said on Carlson’s primetime cable news talk show (below):

“No one reached out to me and said, as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren? But if that’s the exchange, I’m all in. I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me — I have six grandchildren — that’s what we all care about, and I want to live smart and see through this, but I don’t want the whole country sacrificed. That’s what I see. Those of us 70-plus, we’ll take care of ourselves, but don’t sacrifice the country. Don’t do that. Don’t ruin this great American dream.”

We just… wow. Wowwwww!!! So much for flattening the curve, apparently!

So Patrick is literally saying he and apparently “lots of” other grandparents are willing to risk death just to re-start the economy earlier than what doctors and medical experts suggest?! Ohhhh boy…

You can watch Patrick unleash those wild, medically irresponsible comments on video (below):

Shocking stuff — and he’s not the only one suggesting this, believe it or not.

As we reported extensively yesterdayDonald Trump himself is getting more and more antsy to restart the economy and get people back to work amid seemingly endless social distancing recommendations. Public health officials behind the scenes reportedly continue to “strongly urge” Trump to maintain quarantine efforts, per Axios, but the Prez doesn’t appear to keen to stand by those experts.

Case in point — another tweet this morning where Trump further floats the idea of getting things back to normal ASAP, against the wishes of doctors and public health professionals:

Ugh. When you hear these people saying “the cure cannot be worse than the problem” just remember they’re saying we can’t save millions of American lives — no exaggeration, millions of lives, even by the more conservative medical predictions — if it means hurting the stock market.

Oh, and there’s this, too, from Trump’s pal Jerry Falwell Jr. and his evangelical right-wing college in Virginia, Liberty University:

OMG!

Pandemic, meet pandumbic. The pressure to “get back to normal” continues to grow, and yet if they do this wrong, we could be looking at a major disaster with lots of otherwise-preventable deaths as hospitals overflow with cases and our health care system collapses under its own weight.

Seriously, rash decisions at times like this could potentially get people killed — though that doesn’t appear to matter much to those in charge. What is going on in this country right now?! Where is all the leadership?!

What do U guys think about all this? Ridiculous, or what?! Sound OFF with your take on the whole matter down in the comments (below)…
