Cory Monteith May Have Been At A Higher Risk Of Overdose Because Of Rehab

We were horrified to learn of Cory Monteith‘s death and devastated that it was indeed an overdose mix of heroin and alcohol.

But Cory had been using off and on since he was 13 years old! Why did he OD now??

According to medical experts, it may have been the fact that Cory was trying so hard to stay clean. Dr. John Brown of San Francisco General Hospital says that a relapse can be even more dangerous than never quitting at all! He says:

“Among people who have been clean and sober, if they go back into the habit, they will usually start at the same dose that they had before. Their body is now sensitive to it. They’ve essentially reset their body.”

Anyone who has ever gotten out of a cold pool for a few minutes and then jumped back in knows it can be freezing cold all over again.

It’s just so sad that Cory’s determination to get clean may have put him in even more danger.

Sobriety is a long, hard road. And that makes it even more important not to fall off the wagon. Our hearts go out to everyone out there struggling with an addiction today.
