Geoffrey Owens is proud to work at Trader Joe’s.
The Cosby Show alum stopped by Good Morning America on Tuesday where he opened up about being shamed for bagging groceries after multiple sites published photos of him working at a Trader Joe’s in New Jersey last week.
Proudly rocking his Trader Joe’s name tag, the former actor said he was “really devastated” to be job shamed — that is, until countless fans showered him with support on social media.

He told Robin Roberts:
“The period of devastation was so short because so shortly after that, the responses, my wife and I started to read [them] … and fortunately the shame part didn’t last very long… I really want to thank everybody out there … for the incredible support, the amazing support and positivity that they’ve shown for me. It’s quite astounding.”
Owens has been working at the grocery store for 15 months, in addition to acting, teaching and directing.
He said he first took the job because he wanted “flexibility” so he could stay in the entertainment business. Since being bagged with all this attention, however, Owens has quit his position.
