As you may recall, Kay (full name Daniel R. Kay, Jr.) was a contestant on season 17 of the CBS reality show back in 2008 and lasted 21 days before being voted off.
According to an obituary from the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Kay “died unexpectedly” on December 31, though no official cause of death was stated.
The obit goes on to describe Dan, who was an attorney from Brookline, New Hampshire, saying:

“In his free time, he enjoyed running, skiing, listening to music, and attending Crossway Christian Church. Dan had a smile that could light up a room. His desire to be challenged and his quest for adventure lead to his participation on the reality show, Survivor.”

After hearing the news, the reality show’s host and executive producer Jeff Probst took to Twitter to share his condolences as he tweeted:

Mr. Kay is survived by his mother Jean-Ann, his sister Andrea Nichols, his girlfriend Jennifer DePietro, and his two children, Reese Elizabeth Kay and Jackson “Jax” Russell-Reid Kay.
A funeral for Dan will be held on Saturday in Manchester, New Hampshire.
