Daniel Radcliffe Points Out Harry Potter's BIG Double Standard In Johnny Depp Casting Controversy!

Many Harry Potter fans have been bothered by the casting of Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Thus far the filmmakers’ defense of the accused domestic abuser hasn’t made things much better.

But Entertainment Weekly wanted to know what the Chosen One himself thought of the studio’s backing of their new villain.
And Daniel Radcliffe reminded everyone of another case from the Potterverse that shows a pretty big double standard, saying:

“I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that… I’m not saying anything that anybody hasn’t already said ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and this is a weird analogy to draw ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ [but] in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people’s behavior that goes way beyond that and it’s tolerated because they’re very famous players. I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Potter] film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that.”

Yep. In case you forgot, actor Jamie Waylett who played Draco Malfoy’s toadie Crabbe (below, left) got busted for growing marijuana in 2009.

The studio, in an effort to distance themselves from that notoriety, replaced Crabbe with Blaise Zabini (Louis Cordice) for the two Deathly Hallows films.

Does seem like a big double standard for a movie star. Of course, Waylett was arrested and plead guilty — a bit of a different situation.
What do YOU think??
