David Cassidy is suing Sony for money. Money from The Partridge Family.
But get this — David says that Sony has used his image on merchandising without his permission for FORTY YEARS.
At what point should you put a stop to something like that? Are we missing something, and are you required to wait for 40 years before you can take someone to court over this??
According to the suit, Cassidy signed a contract with the production company behind the show in 1971 — guaranteeing him 15% of net merchandise revenues for the use of his image or likeness and 7.5% for all other PF merch.
“The Partridge Family” was only on the air for four years — from 1970 to 1974 — but over time, Cassidy claims the show raked in nearly $500 million in profits from board games, lunch boxes, magazines, comic books and a laundry list of other swag.
To date, Cassidy claims he has only been paid $5,000.
If they’re in the wrong and haven’t been paying him, then yeah, we hope you get your money, David.
But why wait so long to complain of breach of contract and fraud? Wouldn’t “being paid” be something you want as it should be happening? Or were you waiting until you could get a lump sum for the past 40 years?
