David Fincher Explains Why ScarJo Wasn't The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ... Sort Of

We get where he is going with this, but if we were Rooney Mara, we might take a little offense to this.
In the latest edition of Vogue, director David Fincher was asked to comment on why Scarlett Johansson was passed over for the coveted role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. His answer is a bit mystifying, while still making some sense.
He goes:

“Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I’m telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off… Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, ‘What is this little squishy thing?’ Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese’s Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that.”

So, basically, you’re too hot to be weirdo, ScarJo. Deal with it.
And Rooney … well, apparently, you were just enough weird!
