It’s been about a month since we heard the sad news Lily Allen and David Harbour were dunzo after over five years together.
Neither has confirmed the news, but insiders have spilled a LOT of the story. Supposedly David strayed, reactivating his Raya profile and going looking for other women. Lily suspected the Stranger Things star of getting some strange and did some detective work of her own. She caught him, and it was a whole horrible mess. She’s been so broken by the betrayal that she checked herself into a trauma treatment center. That’s the story.
Anyway, it turns out People‘s sources finally confirmed the basics for them. They published a report THIS WEEK that multiple insiders told them the marriage was over. While they may be a bit behind with a lot of the details, they’ve got the scoop on the most important factor: the kids.

Lily has two daughters — Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose — whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper. They’re 13 and 12 now, respectively, but when David first entered their lives they were like 8 and 7 years old. Such a vulnerable, impressionable age. A source told People Lily is “devastated and not in a good place” amid the split:
“It’s been a bad start to the new year, but Lily is tough. She’s very good at prioritizing herself when she has to.”
This is all exactly in line with what we’ve heard previously. But they also noted it’s “been very hard for her and her girls.”
And the girls. Oof. That’s a tough one. It’s always 1000x worse seeing a divorce when children are involved. Even if he’s not their father, he took up that mantle in their lives.
In the summer of 2021, David went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about making an honest woman out of Lily. He explained it was a country bike ride with Lily’s “beautiful daughters” that made him realize he needed to do the right thing:
“The little one was riding along and she was going like, ‘David, dad, David, dad.’ Because the D got her confused. And the older one got very upset with that, which I understand. She was like, ‘He’s not our dad! He’s not our dad!’ And then the younger one was like, ‘Well what is he? He’s kind of our dad.’ She’s like, ‘No he’s not, he’s kind of our stepdad.’ ‘No, he’s not!’ And she goes, ‘What is he?’ And she goes, ‘He’s just some guy in our lives!'”
Yeah. It hit David at the time, too. He realized:
“I was like, ‘I need to marry this woman.’ Because the emotional fallout… Yeah.”
Oof. Just think about the emotional fallout after five years. Now that they’ve accepted him as more than just “some guy”? What a jerk move!
