According to CMG Worldwide, the company that runs the late, great actor├óΓé¼Γäós estate, the unofficial Twitter handle that has over 8,000 followers and 2,000 tweets isn’t trademarked.

Mark Roesler, the CEO of CMG Worldwide, had this to say about the @JamesDean Twitter account in question, which is run by an unknown owner or owners:

“No, we did not sanction the James Dean official Twitter account. There is no official Twitter site for James Dean because it’s been misappropriated by an individual.”

Twitter has refused to shut the account down for good, and in court documented email exchanges with CMG Worldwide, they said that, “Twitter does not have a username reservation policy.”
In what could be a landmark case, CMG Worldwide is asking for an unspecified amount of damages. We’ll see how this story develops, and if any other dead celebs’ estates start posthumously suing Twitter!
