Selena Gomez has spoken up publicly for the first time about longtime friend Demi Lovato‘s overdose and recovery.
The Back To You singer is featured on the October 2018 cover for Elle, and the accompanying interview includes Gomez’s thoughts about what Lovato is going through right now.

And though Selena was tight-lipped even in her public comments about Lovato’s drug battles for the mag, it’s clear she cares:
“All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I … I love her. I’ve known her since I was 7. So … it’s … that’s what I’ll say.”
Understandable!
Remember, Gomez and Lovato go back forever (they were on Barney & Friends together as little kids nearly twenty years ago!) so it’s normal that Gomez would feel strongly (and privately) about what Lovato has been going through.
And though their friendship has hit some rough patches at brief points, it’s clear there’s a lot of long-standing, deep love here (shout-out to that throwback BFF pic up top!).

No doubt the overdose was very difficult for Selena (and all of Demi’s friends, family, and loved ones) to process. Here’s hoping for great news out of rehab and a full recovery for Demi! It’s clear she has a LOT of people in her corner!
