Dennis Quaid is well aware of the jokes made online after news of his engagement broke last month.
In October, it was revealed the 65-year-old was engaged to 26-year-old Laura Savoie, and their wide age gap almost immediately began to raise eyebrows.
After all, they say the rule for minimum dating age is half your age plus seven — and even we can do the mental math and see she doesn’t even clear the half!

While chatting with The Guardian, he addressed the attention he and his fiancée have been receiving since the news broke:
“That was really a laugh. I thought it was wonderful, actually.”
As for the 39-year age gap, that doesn’t seem to phase him either! Shrugging, the A Dog’s Purpose star shared:
“No, it really doesn’t bother us. Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel; I can’t even get angry.”
He continued:
“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. You have no control over who you fall in love with. I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
He may not go looking for an age gap — but he always seems to find one…
Y’all may remember in 2016 Dennis dated a 30-year-old bikini model. He was 62 at the time.
And as many online quickly noted, life is imitating art for Quaid and his relationships with younger women!
In The Parent Trap, Quaid’s character Nick Parker becomes engaged to 26-year-old public relations exec Meredith Blake. At the time of filming the 1998 flick, Quaid was only 44, but the age gap still played a prominent role in the movie.
Hilariously, Elaine Hendrix (who played the blonde bombshell) weighed in on the engagement news with a tweet referencing Lindsay Lohan‘s twin characters Hallie Parker and Annie James:

And that wasn’t the first time Quaid’s life imitated his art! The Rookie actor is father to 12-year-old twins Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace with his third wife Kimberly Buffington. But he’s in on the jokes, and finds the whole situation rather funny too. The father of three revealed:
“In fact, that very day, we went to the Staglin Family Vineyard, where we filmed The Parent Trap. I hadn’t been there since 1996. So we went and they offered us the opportunity to get married there.”
So, will they be tying the knot there? Dennis added:
“Well, wouldn’t you? For sure! I think you have to get married within a year of asking.”
Yeah, you wouldn’t want an engagement that’s too old…
