According to Eddy Grant they did!
The UK singer is consulting lawyers this week to consider suing the Gorillaz for substantial damages over allegedly plagiarizing a song. Grant insists that the band’s new single Stylo has the same keyboard riff from his 1983 track Time Warp. He even suggests that the group’s leader, Damon Albarn, is completely aware of the steal. He explains:
“Damon Albarn knows in his heart of hearts – it’s unfortunate that we cant get into people’s hearts – he knows that this is a song that he’s loved, in his club days├óΓé¼┬ª I don’t know the guy├óΓé¼┬ª but he knows this is a song he loves.”
It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch, considering that both artists are signed on with the same publishing company, EMI, but we think this guy is just trying to jump onto their success.
