Weeks after Diem Brown’s tragic passing, we’ve received some important information regarding the reality star’s true age.
After her devastating death in mid-November, there was a lot of confusion surrounding Diems’s birthday — though some outlets reported she was born in 1982, public records can now confirm she was born in 1980.

So, why the bizarre mix-up?
Diem’s sister, Megan Brown, has revealed that the MTV alum concealed her real birth year in order to further her journalism career, an industry that’s unfortunately pre-occupied with age.
Megan explained:
“Cancer robbed Diem of 10 years of her life. She worked in an industry where age matters. Diem took a couple of years off of her age because of all the years lost, starting and stopping her journalism career because of treatments. She felt cancer took away enough from her. We all agreed whatever age she wanted to be, we would support her.”
We totally understand why Brown hid her actual age. Regardless how you feel about the issue, it’s undeniable that Diem deserved as much happiness as possible, even if that meant telling a white lie about her real birthday.
We’re just sad Diem won’t be here to celebrate in the future.
