Welp! This is it, guys! It’s 2012… and the world really is ending!
Viacom wants a 30% fee increase from DirecTV, but DirecTV says that’s more than a billion dollars they don’t wanna slap on their customers’ bills.
Since they can’t reach an agreement, channels like MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, BET, and Nickelodeon will (most likely) be yanked from DirecTV customers at midnight… TONIGHT!
DirecTV addresses the looming death of fun in its customers’ households on their website:
“Unfortunately, Viacom sent a letter to our executives forcing us to take the channels away in order to gain leverage against us in negotiations, but we hope they wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót do that to their DirecTV viewers.”
Meanwhile, Viacom simultaneously laments:
“DirecTV has rejected all of our proposals to renew our agreement.”
Booo!!!!
Over a billion dollar increase is a bit much, no?
Wonder what the advertisers are gonna say when they realize their message isn’t being sent to half their audience!
