Trust us on this – this baby is going to blow up BIG! And if you chose to remain factionless, then you’re gonna be one lonely soul.
With Twilight coming to its conclusion this fall and The Hunger Games just gearing up momentum with its second film, Summit Entertainment is ready to focus on another one of their most buzzed about projects: the film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s novel, Divergent.
It was announced yesterday that the project has already found a scribe in Evan Daugherty and will be making its way to the big screen by March 21, 2014.
But what the hell is Divergent? And why should YOU be excited? Ah, allow us to explain…
We were first introduced to Veronica’s story two years ago when Summit announced they had picked up the option for book. Crack up the pages, and you’ll be transported into a world that is a mix of 1984, The Hunger Games and Inception, to an extent. The story follows a society set many years in the future, after the world is seemingly destroyed by war and greed. It’s a world where children, upon reaching the age of 16, are forced to choose to live in five ideological “factions” of their exceedingly controlled and structured society. The story’s heroine, after choosing to leave a life of selflessness for one of fearlessness, stumbles upon conspiracy and treachery in the politics of her people and young love with a follow citizen who can’t seem to fit fully into one specific “faction”, which finds them both in the dangerous position of being labeled “divergent.”
Dun, dun, dun!!!
Believe us when we tell you that this one is gonna have SUCH a following. It won’t put the Twi-Hards to shame by any means, but in about two years, every tween you know is going to be walking around in cliques, er, factions from the book which include, Candor (the honest), Erudite (the intelligent), Amity (the peaceful), Dauntless (the fearless) and Abnegation (the selfless).
Hmm. That’s a toughy! Which faction would U chose to live in???
