Doctor Tried To Push Wife Off Hawaii Cliff After She Refused To Take A Photo With Him: Cops

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

A doctor is under arrest and his wife is fighting for her life in critical condition in the hospital after police in Hawaii say he tried to push her off a cliff!

According to a report from Hawaii News Now, anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig (pictured above, in his mugshot) was arrested Monday night on the island of Oahu. He allegedly pushed his wife off a cliff after she refused to take a picture with him during a hike. He is also accused of striking the woman with a rock, and trying to poke her with two syringes, per law enforcement sources speaking to the outlet.

Apparently the hike — along the Pali Lookout area on Oahu — was quite picturesque, and the 46-year-old allegedly became enraged when his wife wouldn’t snap a photo. The woman, who outlets say is 36 years old, has not been named.

According to the Hawaii Division of State Parks, the Pali Lookout area reaches as high as 1,200 feet in elevation. Thankfully, the woman did not fall all the way down the cliff. However, cops say Konig managed to strike her head with a rock at some point during the scuffle. All told, the injuries to the woman’s head and face were so severe that she was transported to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition, per the Honolulu Police Department.

Meanwhile, Konig led cops on a brief pursuit (!) later on Monday before he was apprehended and placed under arrest. As of Tuesday afternoon, formal charges against the doctor are still pending.

Per People, his LinkedIn profile boasts Konig is a partner at the Anesthesia Medical Group in Maui. Hawaii News Now reports that the practice suspended him from active work pending the ongoing investigation. People reports he is also the former attending anesthesiologist at the women’s hospital of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, where he practiced before moving to Maui. By Tuesday morning, the university had removed his profile from their website.

It sounds like Konig was a fairly accomplished doctor before breaking the first rule of the Hippocratic Oath — and doing some harm.

What an absolutely terrible situation. And all this for not wanting to take a photo together while hiking?! Ridiculous. That poor, poor woman…
