Hairy dogs and cats do have their advantages!
Our four legged friends are homeotherms, or animals who can keep a constant body temperature.
Their fur keeps them warm in the winter but also keeps them cool in the summer. Fur acts a thermal regulator, slowing the heat asorption from the sun.
But running around the yard with a fur coat is still very exhausting. Make sure your pooch or kitty stays hydrated during these hot months and look out for discoloration and signs of pain when outside.
Also, follow these pointers if you play on going for a run with your pet too!
