Dogs are not accessories.
But apparently some people think otherwise. And now that their “handbag dogs” are no longer fashionable, they are dumping the poor pups at shelters.
As less celebs are seen carrying their dogs in the purses with them, people, who bought the dog only as part of a trend, not out of the want for love and companionship, are getting tired of them.
In the U.K. alone there has been a 44% increase in small dogs ending up at shelters.
Many of them can barely walk due to a lack of exercise.
A worker at a shelter said:
“People see movie stars holding dogs and they want one at home, but small dogs need to run around, socialise and be treated like dogs ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ not sit in a handbag. When the owners get bored and the animals are sent here, a lot can├óΓé¼Γäót even walk.”
You should only get a dog because you know you can give them a better life than a shelter, and you’re ready for a long commitment and to make the best friend you’ll ever have.
