Dolce & Gabbana Face Backlash For Calling New Shoe 'Slave Sandal'

Dolce & Gabbana find themselves in hot water again!
And just like that, the designers behind Dolce & Gabbana are under fire again!
In case you don’t remember, last year Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana made controversial remarks on the validity of children born from IVF.
Well, on Thursday it was revealed that the Italian fashion house is raising eyebrows with one particular sandal from their Spring 2016 collection, which is available for pre-order on their site now.

The embellished piece went up online with the description as “slave sandal,” and understandably has people upset.
While it didn’t take long for D&G to change it to “DECORATIVE FLAT SANDAL IN NAPA LEATHER WITH POMPOMS,” the damage has definitely been done.
Though Footwear News revealed that “slave sandal” was the term used before “gladiator sandal.” But we have to wonder, wouldn’t they have known that?
Why use such an outdated and honestly, offensive, term?? And did all the people this shoe had to be run by not raise any red flags??
So many questions and so little answers! Anyway, ch-ch-check out a screenshot of the “slave sandal” (below):
