Dolly Parton has suffered an unimaginable loss. Her husband Carl Dean has passed away at 82 years old… after over a half century of marriage.
The Jolene singer broke the news to fans herself on her Instagram Monday afternoon, writing:
“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for you prayers and sympathy.”
So heartbreaking for poor Dolly! They were married 58 years, since 1966. They were together for over 60! The story goes they met doing their laundry at a laundromat in Nashville back in 1964. Wow.
And all that time, they never separated, not as far as we ever heard. Just one of the longest lasting, most perfect couples of all time.
Carl was an incredibly private man for the husband of one of the most famous gals the world has ever known. So much so, many fans theorized the contractor didn’t really exist! But exist he did. Dolly explained in an interview in 2020:
“He’s like, a quiet, reserved person, and he figured if he ever got out there in that, he’d never get a minute’s peace and he’s right about that…. I’ve always respected and appreciated that in him and I’ve always tried to keep him out of the limelight as much as I can. He said, ‘I didn’t choose this world, I chose you, and you chose that world. But we can keep our lives separate and together.’ And we do and we have.”
A cause of death was not given, but Carl was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2019 so it’s pretty likely the cause. So, so sad…
