Donald Trump Attacks Bishop For Preaching About Mercy & Loving Thy Neighbor At Him

Donald Trump Attacks Bishop after National Prayer Sermon

Where has Donald Trump met the most resistance to his grab for power, his attacks on women, the LGBT, and immigrant communities, and his brazen invitations to corruption? It wasn’t the Democrats or the mainstream media, both of whom have surrendered faster than you can say “Neville Chamberlain.” No, it was the Church.

During Tuesday’s national prayer service held at the Washington National Cathedral, a tradition for incoming presidents, a Bishop named Mariann Edgar Budde did what good clergy do. She preached a timely message about the teachings of Jesus.

Unlike the prayers Trump is used to, where they basically exalt the billionaire as an avatar of the Almighty, Bishop Mariann spoke about love and mercy, saying:

“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. […] There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.”

She also tried to remind her audience of their shared humanity with those who are oppressed:

“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they — they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues […] and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.”

Having mercy, embracing immigrants and the poor, loving thy neighbor… It’s all pretty bog-standard tenets of Christ’s teachings. Republicans were furious. They called it “hate speech.” Georgia Congressman Mike Collins called for her to be deported. We wish we were kidding.

And now Trump himself has spoken out, attacking Budde personally. He wrote on his Truth Social Tuesday night:

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater.”

We mean… Jesus would definitely be considered “radical left” these days, we guess… He continued:

“She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart.”

Notice how he immediately jumps to calling women stupid? No matter their position or accomplishments? It’s almost like he doesn’t respect women at all… He then showed how smart he is by reminding everyone he actually thinks “asylum seekers” come from insane asylums:

“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA.”

Glass Onion sweatpants scene

Finally he added:

“Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”

Shocking that this giant man-child found a church service “boring.” Sigh.

We seriously hope her church stands their ground. A church apologizing for talking about the very reasonable messages of Jesus would be like the Anti-Defamation League defending a Nazi salute. Oh. Oh no…
