A devastating loss for country music — followed by a major tribute from President Donald Trump.
Dolly Parton has died at 80, and Trump just publicly mourned the legendary singer shortly after news of her death emerged.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, the president called Parton “one of the greatest” country singers ever and described her passing as a tremendous loss — before ordering that the entire nation honor Dolly for the next week.

Trump began by writing:
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”
But Trump’s tribute didn’t stop with words. He announced that American flags would be lowered to half-staff nationwide for one week in Parton’s honor, beginning Tuesday evening:
“In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
Wow.
Honestly, that’s the right call. Dolly’s career may have started with country music, but her reach went far beyond it. From Jolene to countless other classics, she became an unmistakable cultural icon whose influence crossed generations.
And now, unfortunately, America must say goodbye to one of its most beloved entertainers.
