Donna Karan is switching gears.
On Tuesday, it was announced the iconic fashion designer would step down from her company, Donna Karan International, to focus philanthropic endeavors. Karan is currently committed to Urban Zen, an organization that aims to “raise awareness and inspire change in the areas of preservation of cultures, well-being and education.”

Hmm, considering that the designer is 66-years-old, it makes sense that she’d want to slow things down a bit!
DK released the following statement regarding her retirement:
“I have arrived at a point in my life where I need to spend more time to pursue my Urban Zen commitment to its fullest potential and follow my vision of philanthropy and commerce with a focus on health care, education and preservation of cultures. After considering the right time to take this step for several years, I feel confident that DKI has a bright future and a strong team in place.”
While the fashionista will still act as an adviser to the company which doesn’t plan to seek a replacement, the label will suspend the Donna Karan collection indefinitely and instead will “reorganize its teams and structure” to “substantially increase its focus on the DKNY brand”.
Interesting! We wonder how the label will change post Karan’s departure!
