The producers of the CBS soap opera As the World Turns are being pressured to write in more on-screen intimacy between the popular gay couple on the show.
We want some mouth to mouth action, bitches!!!!
In 1988, As the World Turns was the first daytime sudser to feature an openly gay character.
Last August, it’s believed that it was also the first soap to feature two gay men, characters Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer, kissing.
Luke and Noah are now an official couple and fans can’t understand why there hasn’t been an on-air smooch between the two since September 2007.
Gay men aren’t THAT prudish!
Corporate giant Procter and Gamble (makers of Crest, Mr. Clean, Pampers, Maybelline and so much more) finances the show and calls the creative shots. CBS airs the show and provides some consulting.
Are the suits standing in the way of the kiss?
There’s no kissing ban, said Jeannie Tharrington, spokeswoman for Procter & Gamble Productions, although she wouldn’t say what will happen in future shows. Producers are committed to telling the story of the romance, she said, adding she hoped the audience would recognize what As the World Turns is showing, instead of just what it isn’t.
“We feel like we’re doing so much right here,” she said. “We’re telling a story that no one else is doing. We’re telling a story that has really engaged our audience.”
CBS exec Barbara Bloom said she would like to see Luke and Noah’s romance continue. “If that means there is a natural progression to the physical relationship, I would be in support of it,” she said.
Let them kiss!
