We can’t say we’re too surprised Dr. Phil is catching some controversy for this one.
Following Dr. Phil’s interview with actress Shelley Duvall, fans and Stanley Kubrick‘s daughter Vivian Kubrick called the therapist out for “exploiting” the situation.

For those who don’t know, Stanley directed Shelley in The Shining. It only makes sense that Vivian would have a strong instinct to protect Duvall, who is clearly suffering from extreme mental duress.
In a pointed note to Phil, Kubrick BLASTED him for his “appalling” lack of desire to actually help the troubled star. It’s clear Viv felt the episode was intended to garner ratings rather than meaningful therapy for the icon.
