Whoa! It’s like San Andreas but for real! And WAY scarier!
Friday morning there was an earthquake off the coast of Alaska that measured a terrifying 6.8 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter was far from any dense population — about 400 miles SW of Anchorage, and 34 miles under the surface of the ocean — and thankfully so far there have been no reports of casualties or damage. Whew!

And more good news: the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has officially stated that there is no danger of a distant tsunami, which can sometimes affect coastlines thousands of miles away with larger quakes.
Still, pretty scary!
The largest earthquake ever to hit mainland Alaska, way back in 1968, was a 6.5 magnitude.
