On Friday, Ellen Pompeo replied to a Variety story on Twitter about A&E‘s controversial new show Escaping the KKK: A Documentary Series Exposing Hate in America.

However, the only thing people could talk about was her use of black emojis!
Almost immediately, the 47-year-old clapped back at haters and defended her tweet. She wrote:

However, the thespian did apologize to anyone who was offended by her messaging.

It’s important to note that Miz Pompeo is married to a black man (Chris Ivery) and has two biracial children.
