Elton John has supported the fight against AIDS for a very long time, and is never afraid to speak up for the cause.
At the Sydney Opera House in Australia, during a World AIDS Day event, Elton did just that:
“If we can de-stigmatise this disease once and for all, we are really going to beat this disease. This is not a f**gots’ disease anymore. This is a worldwide disease that affects everybody. Let’s get rid of this disgusting stigma and get these people who are such fascists, such idiots, to understand that people have a right to live with dignity.”
Now THAT is standing up for something. That’s powerful, direct speaking for a great cause — and we can’t help but to agree with him fully.
The disease needs to be stopped, and before we can do that, we need to drop the stigma. A stigma that makes no sense and has no place in our fight against AIDS!
