Emma Stone got into a bit of hot water a couple months ago when audiences realized who she was playing in the movie Aloha.
The caucasian Emma played a character named Allison Ng, who is a quarter Chinese and a quarter Hawaiian.
This led to a ton of criticism for director Cameron Crowe and Emma herself for Hollywood “whitewashing.”

And Emma has heard ALL about it! She said:
“I’ve become the butt of many jokes.”
But the silver lining is that the Irrational Man star got a whole education about the displacement of minority actors. She revealed:
“I’ve learned on a macro level about the insane history of whitewashing in Hollywood and how prevalent the problem truly is. It’s ignited a conversation that’s very important.”
We’re glad gurl learned a lot. Then again, Emma is still standing by her director, a bit! She explained:
“The character was not supposed to look like her background which was a quarter Hawaiian and a quarter Chinese.”
Hmm… we’re confused here. Did she realize her mistake or is she defending it??
