Winning an Emmy can be the highlight of a television career!
Being able to look at that statuette on the shelf and remember the accolades of that glamorous night? Seems priceless, doesn’t it?
Well, it isn’t.
The statuette itself costs around $400 to produce (it’s gold-dipped, not solid), and when you consider how many writers win for The Colbert Report, that’s a lot of cash flying away from the Academy on golden wings!
Well, not exactly. See, the statuette that winners are handed is more symbolic. They can’t just take it with them.
If they want a real one to keep, they actually have to pay for it! And that can cost as much as $500 after shipping and engraving!
We’re guessing Jim Parsons can find a few hundred bucks between the cushions of his couch, but for some winning crew members that’s not exactly cheap!
Eh, it’s worth it though! How many other purchases remind you every day how good you are at your job?
