En Vogue Singer Reveals She’s Been Living In Her Car For 3 Years – And Then Her Ex-Husband Offers Her A Job

Dawn Robinson, a former member of the ‘90s girl group En Vogue, shared a life update with fans — and it’s shocking!

In a 20-minute video posted to YouTube this week, the 58-year-old singer revealed she is homeless and has been living in her car “for the past three years!”

What! How did this happen?

Dawn explained she was living with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020. However, she eventually became fed up with her mother’s “anger” and knew she needed a change. The Don’t Let Go artist recalled:

“That was wonderful until it wasn’t. I love my mom, but she became very angry. A lot of her anger, she was taking out on me. I was her target all the time and I was like, ‘I can’t deal with this.’”

So, Dawn decided to move out. She slept in her car for “a month” until one of her managers — who she didn’t name — suggested she move back to Los Angeles and live with him for a bit. That didn’t work out, though. Dawn said she soon realized there was no space for her at his home, so she went to a hotel for eight months as she looked for an apartment. During the search, her manager would make excuses about why certain places were not right for her, and it did not sit well with her. Dawn remembered:

“Every apartment that I looked at, every single time I looked at a place, I would call him, and I’m like, ‘okay, can you meet me here?’ I would tell him ahead of time, of course. And then, he wouldn’t meet me there. So I would take video and send it to him and he’s like, ‘No, oh my god. This neighborhood, I hate it.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m the one who has to live here.’”

The R&B Divas: Los Angeles alum claimed the manager was “playing games” and felt he wanted to “trap” her so she was dependent on him. When his behavior continued, she had to get the heck outta dodge and cut ties with him in 2022! She alleged:

“Sometimes people want to trap you and keep you in a situation where you’re vulnerable and depending on them. So I got out of there.”

Sounds like Dawn made the right decision to distance herself from him! Something did not seem right about that situation! The Envious crooner then began to research “car life” videos and “loved” what she saw, so she took the leap and has been living in her car ever since! Wow!

Some may think Dawn is upset about her living arrangement. We mean, she is a celebrity! It’s not every day someone from one of the biggest girl groups in the world is homeless! So, we wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t too happy about her current situation! However, it is actually the opposite! She shared that living in her car has been a positive experience for her as it has been a time of “awakening, healing, forgiving, and growing.” She added:

“I felt free. I felt like I was on a camping trip. It just felt like it was the right thing to do.”

Before anyone feels sorry for her, don’t! Dawn stressed:

“It’s not ‘woe is me.’ I’m learning about who I am, I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman.”

What a great attitude to have! Watch her life update video (below):

Although Dawn seems fine with her current situation, one person wants to know that he is here for her if she needs help — her ex-husband, Andre Allen. Speaking to TMZ on Thursday, the 49-year-old former songwriter shared that he has a job for his ex-wife at the Hilton if she wants it, noting that her “charisma and personality” make her a perfect addition to the company’s sales department.

How sweet!

For those who don’t know, Andre and Dawn were married from 2003 to 2010. He had been a songwriter and part of the pop and R&B group IV Xample in the ‘90s but moved on to work as a frontline sales executive for Hilton from 2014 to 2016. According to LinkedIn, he began working in a sales position for the Holiday Inn Club Vacations in 2017 and has been there ever since. Andre told TMZ that leaving the music industry ultimately saved his life and finances. Now, it looks like he wants to do the same for Dawn. Amazing.

It is unknown if she plans to take the job offer. Whatever Dawn decides to do next, we just hope she is happy and safe at the end of the day. We send the icon so much love!
